Deutschland Olympia-Jahr 1936

Berlin: Volk und Reich Verlag, 1936. First Edition. Hardcover. Square 8vo. Unpaginated. Lavishly illustrated with black & white gravure photo reproductions. Sans serif type, in German. Beige open-weave cloth, titles and Olympic Games logo stamped in red on the cover. Spine ends a tad frayed, spine and cover edges age-toned, light foxing to endpapers and preliminaries, faint age toning to leaf margins. Good+. Item #6903

Celebration of all things German in the build-up to the 1936 Olympic Games, with a brief section on post-WWI misery and Communist disruption for contrast. Soft-focus portrait of the Führer on the last page. The photography is excellent, despite the repellent messaging.

The 1936 Berlin Olympics was notable for both African-American Jesse Owens winning four gold medals, amid Hitler's Aryan ubermensch claims of superiority, and the University of Washington Crew also winning the gold medal for the USA, with Hitler and Joseph Goebbels in attendance.
