Army Central Post Fund / USN, [1940s]. Stiff paper wraps; loose leaf. Vessel's Log February to May 1945: 4to. Unpaginated. Stiff brown mottled paper covers, black cloth backstrip, manuscript entries on pre-printed forms by Pioneer, Inc. of Tacoma. Edges rubbed, minimal age toning.

Prince Rupert Sub-Port of Embarkation U. S. Army Service Forces Transportation Corps Souvenir Booklet: 8vo. Pp. 44. Stiff yellow textured paper wrap, titles printed in black, saddle stapled. Illustrated with black & white halftone photo reproductions. Published by Central Post Fund, dated 1 October 1945. Leaf edges minimally foxed.

Typescript carbon copy on Navy bond, orders to All Ships from U.S.S. Teal dated 25 February, 1943. Signed by R. Jacobsen, Lieutenant U.S.N.R., Commanding Officer. Mellowed creases. Good+. Item #6837

The log from a merchant marine vessel, Captain McCaffrey commanding, records a February to May 1945 voyage from Seattle to Whittier (via Prince Rupert) where denied dockage, sent to Seward for quarantine, Seward Army dock where inventory was taken then loaded lumber at 'Margaret Shaffer', Adak 'M & R' dock discharge cargo, pass through sub net, Red Bell discharge, ordered go alongside '135' and pack clothes, Shemya, Attu, Shemya, maintenance with ‘Explorer’, tie to ‘504,' Dutch Harbor awaiting orders, Unalaska, and last entry at Seward Army dock. With barometric readings, comments on weather ("blowing like hell," "visibility 0") and mechanical troubles. The ship and personnel are not identified. There are multiple log notes “C.C.” and “C.C. position,” and the ship is for a time escorted or accompanied by ‘3131.’

The booklet is a souvenir for departing wartime personnel, including the story of the port and the several companies stationed there.

The Navy orders describe signals for ships in harbor to stop propellor screws "to ascertain whether YP 399 actually has a submarine contact." In sum, a artifact-rich look at shipping in the Northwest Coast during WWII.
