Phillips updated and expanded Edmond S. Meany's 1923 Origin of Washington Geographic Names and provided an enlightening historical introduction. In addition to writing this and Alaskan-Yukon Place Names, and co-writing Sourdough Sky, Phillips had been promotion director for KING Broadcasting and advertising manager for Bardahl Manufacturing, amongst other activities described in the obituary.
