First published in the UK, this is the American second state following the first printing that was beset with production errors, mainly the absence of the table of contents. That issue was recalled and destroyed. This is the first printing of the second state.

Other issues afflicted that scrapped first state: mislabeled captions, dedication was lacking, etc. In short, the publication was notably inauspicious for a book that defied expectations in popularity and sheer massive sales. This copy is eminently presentable, with the dust jacket now housed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
