Stinnes was born into a wealthy entrepreneurial family and retired from the Prussian civil service around 1910, devoting the rest of his life to collecting prints and limited editions. This auction catalog is for part of his collection, held on 10 and 11 November 1932 in Leipzig.

Presented in three sections: 1. Early prints from Corot, Degas, Delacroix, Van Gogh, Maillol, Matisse, Picasso, Pissarro, etc. 2. Works of Toulouse-Lautrec formerly owned by A. W. Heymel. 3. Illustrated books and maps, French bibliophilia, Max Slevogt editions. In short order the Nazi Party would declare many of the artists collected, including Kathe Kollwitz, Erich Heckel, Emil Nolde, et al., practitioners of "Degenerate Art."
