A volume in the WPA American Guide Series, being the second state of the first edition, lacking New York World's Fair information. With John Cheever listed as an editorial assistant, Richard Wright as a contributor.

This copy was owned by prominent Seattle architect Victor Steinbrueck, with his bold signature in yellow crayon, underscored. Known as a proponent of modern regionalism, Steinbrueck's architectural practice was mostly devoted to residential projects. He was also an author (A Guide to Seattle Architecture 1850 - 1953, Market Sketchbook, and Seattle Cityscape, among others). His greatest legacy might be his stand on preservation issues: after a stint as chair of the University of Washington Department of Architecture, Steinbrueck's activism in saving Seattle's oldest neighborhood, Pioneer Square, and the heart of the city, the Pike Place Market, allowed the city to retain its soul. Book is now protected with a removable, clear, archival sleeve.
