Art & Architecture was a vital influence in regional and international modern architecture, especially under the direction of John Entenza (1938-1962). In addition, the periodical covered contemporary music and art, the latter covered by Dore Ashton. This collection was owned by noted Seattle-based architect Paul Thiry, considered the father of Northwest modernism. His mid-century buildings not only remain fixtures, but are increasingly revered: The campus of today's Seattle Center, which was built on a Thiry-designed comprehensive plan for the 1962 Century 21 World's Fair, boasts several Thiry buildings in use today. “I don’t do it as a style; I do it for what the so-called style accomplishes.”

Among those promoted in Arts & Architecture were innovators as varied as Craig Ellwood, Hans Hofmann, Margaret Depatta, Pietro Belluschi, George Nakashima, Bernard Rosenthal, Charles Eames, Konrad Wachsmann and, appropriately, Paul Thiry. Now protected in archival sleeves within a three-ring binder.
