Publisher's brown cloth, titles printed in black on a paper label mounted to the spine. Spines sunned, moderate foxing, edges age-toned. The journal begins on August 1, 1832 departing England for an American theatrical tour, and ends in July 1833 at Niagara Falls. Published soon after the British actress's marriage to wealthy Philadelphian Pierce Mease Butler, whom she met on the tour. Not until the Civil War did she publish her Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation describing slave conditions on an 1838-39 visit. Covers preserved in clear, removable archival sleeves.
