Blue half cloth over gray textured paper covered boards, titles stamped in gilt on the spine and in blue on the cover, light gray endpapers: upper corner bumped, mellowed crease across lower part of the front board, leaf edges age toned. Title page inscribed in ink "To John F. G. Stokes...George R. Noyes, October 22, 1948." In the dust jacket, printed black on pale blue textured paper, with edge-wear, light foxing and soiling. The Polish painter, stage designer and poet wrote four dramas on classical subjects, this one first published in 1897. Stokes was an Australian ethnologist who made extensive surveys of the Hawaiian Islands in the early 20th C. Dust jacket is now preserved in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
