The Red Network A "Who's Who" and Handbook of Radicalism for Patriots
[Chicago] and Milwaukee: Self Published/C.N. Caspar Book Emporium, (1935). Early Reprint. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. 8vo. Pp. [1-8], 9-338, followed by several pages of index. Bound in red cloth with black lettering stamped on front board and spine. Top edge dust-soiled, discreet check marks next to a few names, and endpapers a tad foxed. In the color illustrated dust jacket that shows rubbing and shallow chips to edges, notably at head of spine. Please see photos. Very Good / Very Good-. Item #6144 The dust jacket illustration by "JH" is a triumph of sensationalism, presenting a hairy pair of hands manipulating a menacing red net around a globe. The dust jacket is reproduced in HELLER and CHWAST, Jackets Required, p. 101. Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
The book was published by Dilling "herself to make it available at the lowest possible price," yet the title page publisher is covered by a label for the C.N. Caspar Book Emporium, Milwaukee. The author was spurred to activism by a 1931 visit to Russia, where she was told "boastfully that the Communist world revolution would start with China and end with the United States" (from the jacket flap).
