Bound in green cloth with lettering stamped on spine that may have been gilt, but now appears black. That said, an otherwise bright copy. In the dust jacket that shows edge-wear with shallow chips, and faded spine. A discreet stamp above "Mary" states "Remainder Rack at Reduced Price." Although both flaps remain unclipped, no price is present. Very Good / Good. Item #5785
"Published in arrangement with Doubleday, Doran & Company." The celebrated dust jacket illustration by Constantin Alajalov presents the exoticism of 1920s Manhattan nightlife. (Curiously, on the jacket he signed his name with a "d" ("Aladjalov"), which he would later drop.) Please see HELLER and CHWAST, Jackets Required, p. 31. ("illustrated in the Jazz Age cartoon style of one of The New Yorker's leading cover artists."). We might add that the condition of the dust jacket on this copy is far superior to the dust jacket reproduced in Jackets Required. Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve.
