Collects essays by prominent Catholic writers on the nature of Satan, culturally and historically.

An anomaly in the genre of books with desirable dust jackets, this volume was issued with two: One, reproducing a C. Van Roemburg painting of Satan in as a reptilian figure (titled "Satan Self-Bestialized") was, per a jacket blurb, so reviled by book-buyers in Holland that the publishers saw fit to commission a less revolting jacket by Lewis F. White, striking in its austerity with a red lightning bolt on a black background. The publishers decided to issue both, allowing the customer to keep the jacket of their preference, and scuttle the other. Dust jackets are now enclosed in removable, clear archival sleeves. Scarce.
