Tiger Eye

New York: Grosset & Dunlap, (1930). Paul Wenck (dust jacket illustration). Early Reprint. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. 8vo. Pp. [1-2], 3-293, followed by four pages of publisher ads. Bound in orange cloth with blue lettering stamped on front board and spine. Former owner name and year (1935) on the front free endpaper. In the illustrated dust jacket that shows a slightly darkened spine and one shallow and unobtrusive chip. A bright copy. Near Fine / Very Good+. Item #5762

The Paul Wenck dust jacket illustration is a remarkably avant-garde production, presenting a cowpoke in primary colors and sharp angles, foreshadowing a Pop Art sensibility. Other than the publisher logo, the dust jacket spine is devoid of lettering, presenting instead a Mondrian-like motif of geometric shapes, along with the titular tiger eye. Dust jacket now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
