Item #5613

A presentable copy of the first American edition, published later the same year by the White House, a politically motivated Chicago publisher. Krassnoff's potboiler of the sword-and-sandal genre concerns the commander of a Russian military station in Central Asia, and a Russian libertine who first seduces the commander's love interest, then a Chinese maiden. The philanderer meets with exotic torture.

Author Peter Nicolaevich Krassnoff (1869-1947) was an officer in the White Army who, following WWII, was executed by the Red Army. Dust jacket, with evocative art deco design, now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
