The author's philosophical explorations, couched in the form of a novel, drawing from Whitman's poem Eidolons, in which the Greek word "eidólons" ("true realities") culminates in every stanza. Perhaps Stern was drawn to the word for its anomalous feature in Whitman's work, usually noted for its plain-spokenness. The Cirlin dust jacket brilliantly conveys mid-20th c. existential angst. Dust jacket now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
