In the 1930s Geddes founded a playhouse in Brookfield, CT. He also co-directed the Federal Theater Project's experimental section, which produced his play ''Native Ground'' in New York City in 1937. As Paul indicates in his introduction, Geddes willfully avoided gainful employment until financial demands required an unusual path as a local postmaster. As such, a common trait shared with Charles Bukowski, that of poet-cum-postal worker.
