In the 1890s Emma Sarepta Yule (1863-1939) served as a teacher and school principal in Everett, Washington, and was subsequently engaged as principal of Juneau, Alaska schools. She then left Alaska to teach English in the College of Agriculture at the University of the Philippines. She left her professorship in the 1930s and retired to California. Japan had been a steady interest for Yule; in the 1920s she published two juveniles: Stories From Japanese History For Boys and Girls and In Kimono Land.
