Bound in half-binding of white cloth over blue cloth boards, a gilt quill stamped on front board, gilt lettering on spine. Dust jacket spine a bit darkened. Inscribed in black felt pen by contributor James Mason Andrew Cox on the front pastedown and a blue ink annotation on the front free endpaper on the front free endpaper. Fine / Very Good. Item #5441

The inscription reads: "To Jacob Lawrence / Best Wishes / James Mason Andrew Cox 3 January 1971". He has added on the page opposite, "Let art be representational and carry an edifying message ... ". (Ellipsis his.). Cox is a Columbia-educated poet, novelist and playwright who taught in NYC colleges and held executive positions with publishing houses. Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
