Moresby Mice A Souvenir of the Papuan Campaign
Melbourne: Robertson and Mullens. [1943]. G. B. Graham. First Edition. Pictorial Boards. 4to. Unpaginated. With poems and songs by GIs. Illustrated with Graham's comic art and black-and-white photography. Front hinge starting, boards bowed. With the discreet stamp of "E. M. & D. Symons, Southport" on the front free endpaper. Spotting, soiling and general wear. Mellowed creases to front and rear cover, with foxing to endpapers. Despite those condition factors, a presentable copy. Good. Item #5369
Graham celebrates the brutal defense of Papua with due gratitude expressed to Papuan natives ("Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels" or "Black Samaritans") for their invaluable effort. "Mice" refers to the regular resort of Yank and Aussie troops to trenches and underground vaults during steady Japanese Zero attacks. Although undated, published in 1943; thus, an early celebration of Allies success in the South Pacific.
