Benedict's influential work was solicited by the Office of War Information as a study to assess Japanese culture and the Japanese attitudes shaping their expansionist worldview that led to WWII. The work is presented here in a first printing in handsome condition: The first edition was plagued by poor binding production in which no folded endpapers were included. This copy with new endpapers that serve to reinforce the otherwise weak hinges. Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
