Leaving Australia, the Trevessa ran into heavy gales, with water crashing over her decks that damaged two out of the four wooden lifeboats. When the pumps were started there was no water below the tanks to be pumped, but water was pouring in through the bulkhead. Men and stores were tightly packed in the two lifeboats, with many seasick or becoming delirious. Captain Foster's shipwrecked experience in WWI was a critical factor in saving lives of the crew. His heroism was such that King George V asked for his company so that Foster could regale him with his account.

Despite condition factors, a handsome, presentable copy. Cover preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve.
