Clark was born in Japan to missionary parents. Educated Stateside, he landed in China where he published the Peking Leader newspaper in the 1920s and '30s. His books emphasized that colonies were rarely profitable for their colonial powers, but were controlled for the badge of prestige and "a place in the sun." Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
