The is the 47-page first edition; a year later, in 1870, a 40-page edition was issued. Wilkeson, a journalist and publicist, accompanied an expedition exploring the proposed Northern Pacific route from Lake Superior to Puget Sound. He became secretary of the Company in 1870.
