Petrie (1859-1940) is best known as a landscape artist and railway poster designer, but he was also widely traveled, as this, his only book, attests. Here Petrie's paintings convey the exoticism of North Africa with a lucid, credible vision devoid of sentimentality. As a writer, Petrie holds his own. Book is now protected with a removable, clear archival sleeve.
