Title page date " 6" incomplete perhaps due to a damaged form. Full red morocco, tooled gilt border and spine decoration, gilt edges. Silver plated brass clasps and catches, stud center and corner pieces, edge frames front and back. Spine edges rubbed and tail chipped, light foxing to some leaves, fore edge gilt wear. Pencil note on front endpaper "1-14-67 gift of Mrs. C. R. Holmes, Helena." Laid in offering envelope, and a mission remembrance card Los Angeles 1944. Good. Item #5255

Teacher and pastor Brand became first bishop of the diocese of Limburg in 1827 and died in 1833 at age 57. This devotional book went through several editions after his episcopal ordination, with his name Latinized as Jacob. Our copy lacking a full printed date, through OCLC we have established collation with the sole edition of 312 pages, dated 1816 and held at one European university library. Subsequent editions have 356 or more pages.
