Younghusband's military career was upwardly acheived by regular mentions in dispatches. His first command came during the Second Boer War; by WWI he was commander of the 7th Division in Mesopotamia. He later was relieved of the command due to injury. It was perhaps due to regular injury that he was able to produce more than a dozen books, including our favorite title, "Eighteen Hundred Miles on a Burmese Pony." The book at hand is the result of Younghusband's position as a military observer during the Spanish-American War.
