Who Put the BOMP! No. 15 Spring '76

Burbank, CA: Greg Shaw, 1976. First Edition. Saddle-stapled magazine with glossy wraps. 4to (8.5 x 11 inches). Pp. 46. Illustrated throughout with black and white photography. Full-color cover featuring Cheri Bomb of the Runaways. Fine, with no detracting qualities. Fine. Item #5064

A fascinating issue of Bomp! inasmuch as the editorial content, by its raison d'etre, had been devoted to the mission of real rock-n-roll in all its manifestations (heavy emphasis on '60s garage bands, rockabilly and, with this cover story, girl groups); here we see their acknowledgement of nascent NYC punk scene in real time. In this issue Greg Shaw, along with co-editors Alan Betrock (later, of the New York Rocker) and Seymour Stein (founder of Sire Records, signed the Ramones, Talking Heads, Madonna), fully embrace the burgeoning scene, reviewing PUNK magazine ("magazines like this are the healthiest sign of renewed consciousness among street urchins of our decade - more power to 'em." Phast Freddie's Back Door Man is also reviewed, along with Denim Delinquent, the girl groups, and Dave Edmunds. Among record reviews> The Flamin' Groovies Shake Some Action.
