Black cloth binding, blind stamped cover decoration, gilt spine titles and decoration. Top edge dyed brown, others trimmed. Inscribed to Hon R. Dozier by Mrs. Governor B. F. Perry, Sans Souci, Greenville South Carolina, Sept 16, 1889. Light foxing and age tone to leaves, corners bumped, spine faded to brown. Good. Item #5030

Distributed "With respects of Mrs. Governor B. F. Perry" and "dedicated to her grandchildren in memory of their noble grandfather." Perry was appointed by Andrew Johnson first post-Civil War Governor of South Carolina, serving for five months. Most of the articles printed here were written between 1872 and 1876 after his last bid for elective office. Cover now protected in a removable clear archival sleeve.
