The author relates the impetus for the book was found in a box of Garden of Allah photographs, collected by performer Jackie Starr, that he sorted through in 1988 at the South End Steam Baths. Winner of the 1997 Washington State Writers Governor's Award. Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
