Franklin's 1845 expedition was sent by British Admiralty to explore a Northwest Passage in the Canadian Arctic and to record magnetic data. It never returned. Of many search missions, Captain McClintock's was the first to find written records, reproduced here. SMITH 6221, SOLIDAY II, 944.
