The weekly eight-page, one-penny Magazine presented exotic places and customs, history, science and literary excerpts to a wide audience. The Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge set up the Committee of General Literature and Education in 1832 and directed the magazine, published until 1844.
Included in these volumes (May 7th 1836 - Sept. 2nd 1837) are the original printings of W. R. Govett's twenty-part Sketches of New South Wales, published in book form in 1977 by Gaston Renard, a previous owner of this set.
