A grand dame of standing Seattle theaters, the venue has experienced the gamut of cultural shifts, from the grandeur of its 1928 opening featuring a variety of late-vaudeville performance to the ignominy of 1950s B-movies, the indignity of Mick Jones of the Clash, who grabbed a fire axe from a wall and assaulted the wood stage, followed by the 1980s shame of AOR acts on their last legs (viz., Toto). The curtain was nearly closed when Ida Cole financed a renovation that restored the Paramount to former glory.
