Sea Captains of Whidby Island [Whidbey] -- SCARCE first
NP: NP, ND. First Edition. Staplebound wraps. 8vo. Pp. 12. Orange printed wraps, stapled. The work would appear to be an offprint, but entirely lacks publishing data. Fine. Item #46
Published in the late 1940s. A subsequent edition was published in 1984 by The Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington, Whidbey Island Chapter #6. A rich vein of maritime history documenting the maritime traders who had interaction with Whidbey Island, among them Simeon Kinney; B. P. Barstow; George M. Coupe (for whom present-day Coupeville is named); Jack Cosgrove; Robert C. Fay, and; many others. The genealogical relations of the mariners and their offspring is presented, too. Includes much information on trade with California and China. Presumably, the author is related to and perhaps the daughter of George Abbott Kellog, whose 1934 "A History of Whitby's (Whidbey's or Whidbey) Island" is a fixture among books on Puget Sound. This first edition is scarce. SMITH, 1371.
