Inscribed to the owner who applied the bookplate: "My Dear -- -- , Your kind messages are greatly appreciated. No pen can do justice to the marvelous creatures that live in the desert, least of all the pen of this tenderfoot and your friend. / Eve Ganson Los Angeles, California / May 16th, 1933." A charming ode to desert fauna, especially so do to the author's irreverence. Referring to the bat as stupid ("That as the years wore on / The Bat became a true moron! / Neglect a gift - you're sure to lose it. / He had a brain - but did not use it."
