Original Window Sign for Prelate Pink Salmon Packed by the Fidalgo Island Packing Co. of Anacortes, Washington FOR SALE HERE
Anacortes, Wash. Fidalgo Island Packing Co, 1900. One Sheet. Color lithograph sign measures 14.5" x 8.25". We displayed a dollar bill in one of the photos for scale. Designed to be affixed to windows of stores selling Prelate Pink Salmon among their provisions. Slight soiling to sign, more noticeably on verso. We dated the poster to 1900 for a ballpark date, based on dates of holdings of "Decalcomanie 'Good-Ad' signs at the Huntington. A particularly bright copy that belies its age. Very Good. Item #3443 The Fidalgo Island Packing Company was established in 1894; the company moved to Canada in 1933. "Prelate Pink Salmon" remains available today, sold by Trident Seafoods.
A superb example of canned-salmon label art, this not for a label per se, but to be used for marketing. Verso offers instructional text and diagrams for installing "Decalcomanie 'Good-Ad' signs manufactured by Palm, Fechteler & Co." in windows. The artwork provides a cool take on native Northwest Coast art, co-opting its traditional design with a vaguely Polynesian tiki aesthetic combined with the prelate's (or pope's) mitre.
