Eleven of the poems collected here first appeared in The New Yorker, which is particularly rich given Howard Moss's reputation of paying poet's handsomely. Howard Moss is the recipient of the inscription, per bookseller Peter Howard, from whose inventory this copy was dispersed. Peter Howard has appended the "Dear Howard" in pencil, indicating MOSS. The fulsome inscription credits Moss for having picked out a poem from Swan's journal as a key spark of encouragement. Inscription dated April 5, 1979. Moss contributed the only blurb to the book, a poignant endorsement on the rear panel of the dust jacket. Dust jacket now preserved in a removable, archival sleeve..
