Per the author, one of the first histories of Nepal written in English that is not by a foreigner -- the latter "whose idea of the country could not at all be intimate." With great information on Newars and their arrival and development in the country, and worthy information on Nepali literature, art and architecture, and how it differs from Indian modes. Published only after the author was incarcerated in India before being extradited to Nepal.
