First printing of Olin's treatment of Skid Road, in Seattle's Pioneer Square, where the phrase was coined in reference to fresh logs being skidded down a steep hill to the first saw mill in Seattle, owned by Henry Yesler. A subsequent printing was issued in 1973. Olin's treatment of the subject is sympathetic, as reflected in chapters titled "The Crime of Being Poor" and "No Work for the Willing."
