Tennyson -- Cleanth Brooks' Uncorrected Advance Proof
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons [Scribner / Scribners], (1993). Advance Reading Copy. Paperback. 8vo. Pp. xvi, 370, (4). An uncorrected advance proof bound in printed, stiff yellow wraps. A letter on Scribner's letterhead to Cleanth Brooks, dated 1993, is laid-in. Very Good+. Item #1665
The letter, from Mark LaFlaur, addressed to Brooks at his Yale address, requests comment on the Tennyson book. Brooks involvement with the Fugitives, including John Crowe Ransom, Allen Tate, Donald Davidson, Robert Penn Warren, and others, established a foundation on which the New Critical movement was based, and ineffably shaping Brooks' aesthetic views. Whether he announced them in reaction to the Tennyson book is unknown.
