Making Waves -- INSCRIBED copy

Cherry Valley Editions, 1986. First Edition. Paperback. 8vo. Unpaginated. Bournd in illustrated wraps, black lettering printed on spine. Very slight age-toning to top of front cover, else Fine. Inscribed by the author in pen on the title page. Near Fine. Item #1633

First printing, the second edition published the following year. Charming, occasionally deep verse, often using surfing as a motif. Trachtenberg's seemingly light verse beguiles by its easy approach, delving into deeper themes without trying, and sometimes employing his experiences as a Disneyland employee to get there. This copy, from the dispersed inventory of Berkeley's Serendipity Books, has a parenthetical reference to "Nathan," alluding to Leonard Nathan as the subject of Trachtenberg's inscription, which reads "For Leonard / Merry Waves & Happy Tides / Best, Paul Trachtenberg." Beyond his substantial body of poetry, Nathan spent a career teaching in Cal's English Dept.
