A particularly small limitation. Among the talented friends who circled around Alfred Knopf and H. L. Mencken, almost all had difficulties with alcohol, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Faulkner, James T. Farrell, Theodore Dreiser, Sinclair Lewis, Edgar Lee Masters and Joseph Hergesheimer, whose decision to stop writing, in 1930, willful or not, contributed to the decline of his once-proud literary reputation. Dust jacket is now housed in a clear, removable archival protector.
