Burton's distillation of Sufi thought, presented as a response to the Rubaiyat of Omar Kayyam, is a slight literary hoax inasmuch as Burton didn't translate the work at all, but wrote it from whole cloth. With a worthy introduction by Aurelia Henry Reinhardt.
