Starting with a used Stinson SM-8A, Linious McGee founded McGee Airways in 1932, flying a route between Anchorage and Bristol Bay. Over the span of decades the airlines consolidated Alaska's disparate puddle-jumpers and bush-route operators, establishing the name Alaska Airlines in the 1940s. In the 1960s the firm entered the jet era, while solidifying home-state command with the 1968 acquisition of Alaska Coastal Airlines and Cordova Airlines.
