Intersection of Line
Fullerton: Art Department, California State College at Fullerton, 1968. First Edition. Staplebound. Square 4to. Cover is a three-fold textured-paper cover, printed only verso. Inside is a 20-or-so-page stapled exhibit booklet with description of historical, world artifacts in the show, as well as contemporary textiles, comprising in sum 92 items. An image of a 5th C. Coptic textile, from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, is laid in. For whatever reason, two of those illustrations are laid-in, as well as two copies of the outer folder. Slight hint of rust to staples, and paperclip rust residue on the title page of the inner folder. Very Good. Item #1449
In the 1960s, Kester established the textile program at Cal State Fullerton. While there he curated this 1968 group show of hand woven, knitted and other textile work. The show proved the impetus for his groundbreaking 1971 show at UCLA's Wight Gallery, “Deliberate Entanglements". The two shows proved seminal in the history of contemporary American fiber art. This copy of the exhibition program was owned by Seattle arts-patron Anne Gould Hauberg, and has a note in her hand indicating "my collection". Hauberg's work by Lenore Tawney, titled "Egyptian," was featured in the show.
