Luneville: Musee de Luneville, 1964. 1964. Paper Wraps. Square 16mo. Unpaginated. With six b&w plates of Clergue's photos. Text includes poems, epigrams and snippets of Cocteau's writings on Clergue. Bibliography. A list of exhibits of Clergue's shows. Bound in stiff, printed wraps, stapled. Inscribed by Lucien Clergue on the title page. Fine. Item #1431
Inscription reads, "Homage a Mrs and Mr -- -- (signed) Lucien Clergue." Primarily a museum catalog devoted to Lucien Clergue, the small volume is perhaps more a Cocteau piece, given Cocteau's prolix enthusiasm for Clergue's work. Plaudits, poems and other miscellany amount to Cocteau handing the crown worn by Cartier-Bresson to Clergue. The catalog was published the year following Cocteau's death, so Clergue and the museum, near Nancy, France, may have been emboldened to underscore Cocteau's estimation of Clergue. The museum remains the premier repository for Cocteau archives. Regardless, a scarce item, with no copies available online at the time of this listing. Bookseller inventory C09141X77W.
