False Witness
Seattle and London: University of Washington Press, 1969. First Edition. Hardcover. 8vo. Pp. xviii, 209. Half yellow cloth over brown paper-covered boards. Fine in VG dust jacket. Fine / Very Good. Item #1308 If one looks closely, a copy of this book rests on the desk of the character played by Dustin Hoffman in "Marathon Man," shown as research for his thesis "Tyranny in America." That's one of the few instances of product-placement of which we approve. Increasingly uncommon in this exemplary condition. Dust jacket now protected in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
The UW professor's account of the Canwell Committee witch hunt, whose kangaroo court was more representative of Stalin's Soviet tactics than the misidentified "communist plot" it purported to expose. Contains a whodunit aspect involving a hotel register that would have shown Rader and his wife were staying at the Canyon Creek Lodge, near Granite Falls, and not at, as accused, a communist training camp.
