Steinlen b&w illustrations throughout including music scores. Edition limited to 50 on Papier du Japon, this copy hand numbered 39 and signed by Bruant. Wraparound color illustrated jacket over unprinted wraps, edges untrimmed. Jacket spine tail minimally chipped, untrimmed edges minimally rubbed, front hinge reinforced, else crisp and bright with tight binding. Very Good+ / Very Good+. Item #12922

Bruant (1851 - 1925) was a French cabaret singer, comedian, and nightclub owner, credited as the creator of the chanson réaliste. In posters by Toulouse-Lautrec he is depicted in his signature red scarf and black cape. This was the first of three volumes collecting his songs and monologues.

Swiss artist and Montmartre resident Th. A. Steinlen was an habitué of Paris café-concerts with Toulouse-Lautrec.
