The Monthly Letter of The Limited Editions club, Number 535, Series 47, Vol. 2, December 1983, is laid in. It states, "Hersey's was the first detailed account of the effects of the bomb on the people of Hiroshima." Hersey's article, which initially appeared as an entire issue of the New Yorker, was based on survivor interviews conducted in Japan six months after the bombing of Hiroshima.
