The Commissioning [of] U. S. S. Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. DD - 850 December 15, 1945 [Program]

[Boston]: [United States Navy], 1945. First Edition. Printed wrappers. 8vo. Pp. [8] Stiff paper wraps illustrated with commissioning pennant printed in black, red and navy blue; saddle stapled. The two interior folded sheets lack printing one side, thus pp. 2, 3, 6 and 7 are blank, else crisp and bright. Near Fine. Item #12788

Program for the Boston commissioning ceremony, with roster of officers and crew. The Gearing-class destroyer was named after Lieutenant Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., naval aviator and son of the former U.S. Ambassador to Britain, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., and older brother of future President John F. Kennedy. Jean Ann Kennedy was sponsor.

An apparent printing error has left two sheet sides blank, including part of the roster. We suspect the program was recalled due to the error, thus explaining the otherwise inexplicable scarcity.

Rare on the market, with no institutional copies located by OCLC.

Price: $175.00
