Frontis. etching with tissue guard. Preface by J.-H. Rosny Aîné and Postface by Jean Ajalbert. Illustrated with Paul-Louis Guilbert drypoint etchings with tissue guards, plus one original ink and watercolor sketch mounted to a loose leaf. Stamped copy no. 33 of an edition limited to 30 numbered 16 to 45 on Japon Impérial "contenant deux états des gravures, dont un avec remarques et un croquis original de l'artiste." Bound in stiff printed wraps in jacket with etching vignette to the front panel; cover and spine lettered in black and red, edges untrimmed. Limitation page with two inscriptions: editor Georges Briffaut to Maître Justal dated January 1930, and Justal to Jean [illegible] dated December 1937. Merest hint of toning/soiling to edges and creases to the spine. Very Good+. Item #12427

Inscribee Maître Justal had successfully defended Briffaut in a 1912 trial for outrage aux bonnes mœurs (obscenity) as publisher of Les Maitres de l'amour in the "Bibliothèque des Curieux."
